Here at Ailu Swim, we strive to play our part in contributing towards a more sustainable and ethical world especially in the retail industry. We have chosen to take the route of slow fashion so we are producing limited, conscious drops in order to minimise mass production waste and reduce our carbon footprint. We believe in transparency so these are some ways in which we run our small business;

Our swimwear fabrics in selected styles are made using recycled fabrics which means waste such as plastic bottles and fishing nets collected from our oceans are then regenerated and remade into the swimwear you see on our website. Furthermore, the excess fabric wasted to make our bikinis are then recycled again externally to create new, recycled fabrics ready to be made into new pieces just for you. The hygiene liners on all our swimwear are made from Eco Kraft paper instead of plastic.
Whereas our first collection was manufactured, our next and future collections are handmade and made to order by Ailu founder, Cathy in her Melbourne studio to further reduce fabric wastage and to ensure ethical working conditions.

All our beautiful staff based in Indonesia are educated about waste management at work and home. They exceed minimum labour standards, are provided comprehensive health insurance for themselves and their family, are paid above award wages at up to three times the standard whilst working less than 40 hours per week.

With every bikini purchased, our manufacturer donates 10c per bikini to ROLE Foundation which supports zero waste to our oceans and sustainable businesses for coastal communities, and BALI WISE, which focuses on women's business education. During this pandemic, they are also contributing their profits towards SOS Indonesia, to help feed those in need.

Our stickers and poly mailers are supplied by No Issue or HeroPack.
Stickers we use are FSC Certified, printed on acid free paper so it won't leave behind any nasty chemicals when decomposing. Soy inks are used which is an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based inks, made from soybeans, a renewable resource. It also has low levels of VOCs, reducing air pollution during the drying process.
We use 100% compostable mailers which is made  from a combination of corn-based biopolymers which breaks down within 90 days.
Every Ailu Swim order is packaged in a beautiful, sustainable cotton bag. Perfect for reusing to store your swimwear, makeup, or fresh produce from the markets.
